Our mission is to help any and all kids in need to help them succeed in education. This could include anything from school supplies, new shoes, haircut to a even a bed to sleep in. If a child has their needs fulfilled, it is much easier to learn in school and gives them one less thing to worry about.
Sue was a 1st grade and K+ teacher at Hawthorn Elementary in Salem, IL. Sue treated her students like they were her own. So when one child could not stay awake in her class, she had to figure out why? When she asked this child why they were so tired, what she heard back would change her life forever. The child said, "I have to sleep on the floor at night because I don't have a bed. There are mice that run across the floor around me and on me." Sue left school that day and drove straight to the furniture store in town and bought that student a bed, sheets, and a comforter. That child's energy in class changed for the rest of the year. The student's grades, energy level and participation in class skyrocketed. Although Sue had always done small things for kids since day one, even on a teacher salary, after this event she vowed to do whatever it took to help kids succeed in school....no matter how small or BIG!
